Who decided the toggle switches for manual shifting needed to go on top of the shift lever on the Malibu?
What was wrong with it having it's own channel to the side? I don't understand GM's obsession with these stupid toggle shifters. My mom's Vue has one and it's a pain, and it's toggle is at least on the side of the lever! They do this on a ton of their cars and it makes any short of manual shifting annoying to do with awkward ergonomics.
And where the hell are the paddle shifters GM? Even the fucking Camry has paddle shifters. You offered them on the old Malibu, but why not this one?
See this shifter you did in the Vue Redline? Put this in everything.

I don't understand things that GM does sometimes.

I don't either. I understand this is just a little thing, but geeze.

Upshift and downshift are still backwards.
Mazda gets it right usually

The side toggles also make no sense IMO. So impractical.

That really only makes sense on a column shifter.

I'm okay with it so long as it isn't just a button!

Like the rest of the interior looks pretty sharp, but some aluminium paddles or a left-up-down to shift pattern would be cool.

I doesn't matter, shifting a manumatic is stupid anyways.

So impractical and not in the slightest bit dramatic.
He floors it, the buttery smooth 3.6 climbs to redline, he presses the plus button on the side of the shifter to go up to second.
No theater to it at all like there is with a pull shift.

I would've been okay with the shitty button placement if it had paddles, which I thought it did since the old one did. But I was wrong.

In a way, I'd almost think that if they could find a shift pattern that was intuitive enough, a column shifter would be great for a +/- mode next to D: just 'bump' the shift lever up or down – it'd almost be as good as a paddle shift!

Huh, They should work on that a little bit. I'd like it more without those things.

At least its more exciting then just putting it in drive and going.

Exactly, the whole point of a manual mode is adding a bit of zest to the experience.

i guess, but it still makes more sense on a column than on the center stack or what ever you call the normal place.

Typical GM. They give us the Z28 but throw this rubbish at us as well.

On the prior Malibu, they also messed up the shift paddles. Instead of one for up and one for down, it was a push-pull thing and it was relentlessly stupid.

Don't forget the chocolate bar in the summer.

Someone needs to sit their engineers down and explain how to make a proper setup for manual mode. And that person needs to be whoever did the paddles in the C7.

Oh yeah, that's always a melty sticky mess.

They need to assign the engineers from that and the C7 to show the people who work on more pedestrian models how to do things right.

I feel like this sorta stuff doesn't even have anything to do with cost. It seems like they just want to do little things like these to make their cars different from the competition, without actually thinking of how everything functions.

Or the ones who don't put the lid on all the way, but it's on just enough for you not to notice and pops off going through a corner.

it looks ok in pictures, but I had one as a loaner a few weeks ago and it was a huge step down from my '14 silverado. It was even worse than my C6 vette

The previous Malibu had a paddle shifter option? My '11 just has that stupid toggle switch on the side of the shifter. That thing is worthless. It won't even let me do a second gear start in the snow.

no, it seemed like it was well assembled and everything was tight. It just used very cheap materials. Everything I touched felt cheap. It reminded me of my sister's HHR.
